The theme for this week’s PPA30 challenge is KISS or Keep it Simple Sweetie.  What could be simpler then stamping an image and then using paper punches to pop it out and embellish it?  This spring there are definitely some hot color combos, but purple and yellow together is certainly one of the hottest!

 

DO IT YOURSELF TIPS! 

• Having a couple of punches really does save time and supplies.  They will even increase your creativity!  Start with a few that are good multi-taskers like the Large Oval, Scallop Oval, 1 1/4” Circle and the new Small Heart (117193) and Extra Large Two-Step Bird (117191).  Basic shapes offer more design options and in this tight economy that means more punch for your money!

The Tale of Three Vases

 

This card is the perfect example of my love for things that can multi-task.  The black vases are simply three Small Ovals that I cropped the tops and bottoms off of.  Does the flower look familiar? It’s the little flower from the Love You Much stamp set!   I put the “hello” sentiment on this card, but it could easily be a Birthday, Thank You or Thinking of You card that you can make year around.  Gotta love it!

 

DO IT YOURSELF TIPS! 

 

• Before stamping the flower image, clean the rubber on your stamp thoroughly and then let it dry so you don’t get a shadow from past projects
• When you are ready to stamp, simply use Stampin’ Write markers to color only the stem, leaf and flower portion of the stamp
• For this card I was going for uniformity so I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig to insure the flowers were evenly spaced and lined up

Valentine's Day card for the man in your life

 

Making masculine cards can be a struggle for some and I’m certainly no exception.  However, I figured I couldn’t go wrong if I added some of the gorgeous tone on tone Groom Specialty Paper and kept the bling to a minimum.  There’s something very classy about using red and black together.

DO IT YOURSELF TIPS! 

• I stamped the image in Real Red ink and then used a Blender Pen to remove the ink from the stem and leaf.  After that area was clean, I used an Always Artichoke Stampin’ Write marker to bring the stem and leaf to life.
• When it coming to making something that has a border punched on all four sides, size really does matter.  For this card I used a 3 13/16” square.  While holding the Scallop Trim Corner punch upside down in my right hand and the paper in my left hand I punched all four corners.  After the corners are done, line up two scallop corners with the guide that is printed on the Scallop Trim Border punch and press down on the lever to punch the paper.  Do this on all four sides and you’re done!

The Wheel O’ Love

 

It’s time for PPA29 and this week’s challenge is based on another fabulous sketch by Margaret Moody.  I don’t think Margaret will mind that I turned her beautiful sketch on its side so I could show off more of the I {Love} Love jumbo wheel image.  Hand coloring the image with seven colors of Stampin’ Write markers provided a lot of color with very little effort.  The most difficult task for me was deciding which colors to use and where to use them.  Doesn’t the final image sort of looks like an event ticket? 

 

DO IT YOURSELF TIPS! 

• You don’t need to rush while hand coloring a stamp or wheel with Stampin’ Write markers.  Take your time, just remember to “huff” on the rubber to remoisten the ink before stamping your image
• If you make a mistake while hand coloring, use a Blender Pen to clean away the unwanted ink
• To avoid crooked or overlapping images while using either the Standard or Jumbo Wheels use Stampin’ Around Wheel Guides ~ they will keep your project headed in the right direction
• Want your brads and buttons to all line up like a precision drill team?  Use the template that comes in the Stampin’ Up! Mat Pack.

This is such a delightful stamp set!  Hearts can be used for nearly any occasion – just change the sentiment and let your creativity be your muse!  And remember, until February 28, 2010, $2 from every I {Heart} Hearts stamp set that is sold will be donated to the American Red Cross’ Haiti Relief and Development Fund.

 

DO IT YOURSELF TIPS! 

• When stamping a random image like I did with this project, be sure to stamp some of the images off of the card stock to give your project that “random” look.
• Stampin’ Dimensionals are perfect for giving your card a little 3-D boost.
• Because there is so much detail and the cutting in so intricate with the Pinking Hearts Border punch it might take a little more oomph to squeeze, but the results are well worth the effort!

C is for Cat – PPA28

 

As every person who has ever been owned by a cat knows; cats love to sit and look out the window – by the hour.  During the spring, summer and fall my sunroom is the favorite hangout for my cats Cera and Katie, but during the winter they use their lambs wool lined window sets that have been placed in various windows around the house.  They aren’t spoiled!

 

The PPA28 Color Challenge and Stamp’ Up! C is for Cat stamp set are a purrfect combination!  To play along with this week’s challenge click here.  Here are the beautiful colors that we have to play with:

 

 

 

Making the window was very easy to do using the 1 1/4” Square punch.  I just measured out my window panes, marked them with a pencil and voila! I love my paper punches; they are such a time saver!  The window is backed with a piece of Shimmery White paper and Snowflake Printed Window Sheet to mimic the current “Winter Wonderland” that most of us are currently dealing with.  However, the black kitty that was stamped in Basic Black and then snipped out is all warm and cozy indoors.  She is quite the glamour queen with her Pretty in Pink collar and Pink rhinestone which I popped out of its setting to reduce the size a wee bit.

 

I wanted to doll up the Scalloped Circle punch a little so I dipped the small tip of my dry embossing stylus in Frost White Shimmer Paint and placed a dot of the paint in the center of each scallop.  It’s fast, easy and looks pretty cool too!

Wishing You a Happy Heart

 

Love is definitely in the air!  The members of my monthly Stampin’ Club enjoyed making this card so I thought I’d share it with you!  This card is easy to make and goes together very quickly. 

 

Start by using Stampin’ Write makers to color the image from Stampin’ Up! A Happy Heart stamp set.  I used Always Artichoke for the stem, Real Red for the Dandelion, Real Red and Pretty in Pink for little hearts and Chocolate Chip for the sentiment.  This was stamped onto a 3 ½ X 2 ½  piece of Very Vanilla card stock which was mounted (using Dimensionals) onto a 3 ½ X 3 piece of Real Red card stock that I tore about 1/2 inch off of the right hand side. 

 

For the base of the card I used Real Red card stock with a 5 1/4 X 4 piece of Very Vanilla that I ran through my Big Shot using the Distressed Texturz Plate.  Add a 5” piece of 5/8” Real Red grosgrain ribbon and one of the wonderful new Sending Love epoxy brads and then mat it onto the base of the card using SNAIL adhesive.  Using SNAIL adhesive adhere the image to the front of the card.  Pop out a small heart using Stampin’ Up!’s new Small Heart punch and put it over the word “heart” using a scrap of Real Red card stock and half of a Dimensionals.
