Pals Paper Arts (PPA12) – Autumn

 

The Branch Out stamp set is a favorite of mine.  So, I’m glad that Stampin’ Up! decided to place it on the dormant list and not retire it.  The set comes with eight stamps – the tree, leaves, snow, a bird, birdhouse, tire swing, butterflies and even a pair of rain boots.  It’s a stamp for all seasons!

 

This card has so many textures ranging from card stock, textured card stock, wood, and cloth to copper.  It’s the copper and the benefits of owning a Sizzix Big Shot that I want to talk about today. The Big Shot is truly a workhorse for my card making and paper crafting.

 

·     It will work with not only all of the Sizzix dies, but with all of the competitors dies as well

·     It’s portable, nothing to plug in

·     It die cuts and embosses

·     The Steel-ruled (Bigz, Bigz Clear, Bigz XL, Originals, and Movers & Shapers) will cut through a variety of materials such as card stock, chipboard, thin wood, felt, Fun Foam, cork, magnet sheets, vinyl, plastic window sheets and thin metals such as aluminum and copper.

 

Today I used my Big Shot to create the leaf for this week’s PPA challenge card.  The thin copper is available in sheets or in a roll at most of the larger craft stores.  After I cut the size that I needed from my roll, I then ran the copper through my Big Shot using a Texturz Impressions plate to give it the texture that I wanted.  My last step was to run the copper through my Big Shot again to cut out the leaf. The leaf part of my project was done in about one minute.

 

I believe the Big Shot to be an invaluable tool for anyone who is into card making, scrapbooking or crafting, which is why I will be announcing an exciting sale on Friday, October 16, that will only be available through me and only for this weekend.  Please make yourself a note to check back tomorrow because you won’t want to miss out on this sale!!

Charming with Rich Razzleberry

 

My mother-in-law is such an amazing woman!  She’s classy, charming, has a wonderful sense of humor, a flair for design and an incredible talent for business.  I don’t get out to Salt Lake City to see her as often as I’d like, but when we are together we tend to take shopping to a whole new level…lol!  For her birthday this year I used the new Stampin’ Up! Charming stamp set (available for a limited time in the Holiday Mini catalog) along with Rich Razzleberry card stock and Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper to create a uniquely “Shirrell” card. 

 

I adore Stampin’ Up! paper punches!  They have so many uses and they pair perfectly with other embellishments.  Use them together with a snippet of ribbon or a brad and your project will have some WOW power.  I printed the sentiment for this card on my printer and then just popped it out with my Large Oval punch, then I layered it on to a scrap that I punched out using the Scalloped Oval punch to finish the card.

Welcome to the Holiday Hop!

   

Let’s do to the Halloween Blog Hop!

 

Please join us as we hop our way through the fall season.  We will be showcasing the creative talents of the Stampin’ Pretty Pals and the wonderful Stampin’ Up! products.

 

Be sure to mark your calendar for the future hops on November 10th (Thanksgiving) and December 1st (Christmas).  What a fun way to get inspired for the upcoming holidays!

 

Boo!  I had such a great time creating these two cards.  The first card (boo) was made using the Twick or Tweet and Halloween Frights stamp sets along with the Timeless Type Alphabet Sizzlits dies for the Big Shot. Isn’t that Elegant Eggplant rickrack the cutest?  It is part of the Ribbon Originals Orchard collection.  I was searching around for some black buttons and discovered that with all of the fun embellishments that Stampin’ Up! has, there aren’t any black buttons!  So, the buttons on this card are from my sewing box and the “thread” is just slivers of Pumpkin Pie card stock.

 

 

  

The spooky, haunted tree card was my first attempt at using a brayer.  What is a brayer you might be asking?  Well, it looks like a small paint roller, but instead of having a fluffy roller, it has a 4” soft rubber roller.  It’s used to spread ink over a large area and if you’re really good at it, it can be used to create some awesome effects on a card.  But, I’m just a beginner and I used my brayer to put Going Gray ink over the entire piece of White Vellum that I used for my haunted tree image.  After the Going Gray, I used my 1 3/4" circle punch to make a mask out of a Post-it-note – making sure that both my circle and the leftover Post-it-note had some sticky stuff on it so it would stay in place on my Vellum.  With my circle mask in place, I sponged Brocade Blue on the bottom half of the card, then I sponged Perfect Plum on the top and slightly overlapping the Brocade Blue. After the ink dried, I removed my circle mask and put the reverse mask on to protect the area around the circle and sponged my moon with Apricot Appeal.  I let the card sit and dry for about 15 minutes then I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the image of the tree and owl in Basic Black ink.  The only other thing about the card is that I cut out the black frame using a ruler, a hobby knife and Basic Black card stock.  It took me several attempts, but I love how it looks on the card.

Mojo Monday - Thanks for blessing my life with you

 

So often we go about our day without remembering to give thanks to those around us who bless our lives in so many ways.  Today is Thanksgiving in Canada (where my side of the family calls home) and I made this card for my niece Charlotte who is in British Columbia attending university.  Charlotte has certainly been a blessing in my life with her quick smile and sense of humor to match.  She’s a tender hearted soul who needs to be reminded from time to time just how special she is – and today seemed like an excellent opportunity to do just that.

 

Here’s a tip:  The white gel pen is way cool!  I used it to quickly dress up the Pocket Shilhouettes flowers on this card.  However, you do need to take care of it – keep the cap on it when it is not in use and store it horiztionaly.  I’ve found that once the tip dries up there’s no fixing it.

PPA #11 – You Rock!

 

This weeks’ Pals Paper Arts challenge is a super fun color combo – Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive and Perfect Plum.  All three colors are perfect for a Fall or Halloween card, but I took a slightly different path.

  

 

Normally, I try to post my challenge card on the first day of the challenge – especially when the challenge is hosted by a group (the Pals) that I’m a member of.  However, I made this card for my nephew’s 15th birthday and I wanted to be fairly certain that he got it before I posted it on my blog.  After all, who wants to see their birthday card before they get it in the mail?   So, to my nephew Stuart….Happy Birthday, You Rock Dude!

  

 

Here’s a Tip:  For crisp sentiments (and in this case the image too), I use Jet Black Staz-on ink.  Just be sure to clean your stamps with Staz-on cleaner immediately after you use them because Staz-on will permanently stain your stamps if they aren’t cleaned properly.

Ah..ah...ah CHOO!

 

It seems like everyone I know is either sick themselves or has a spouse or child that is under the weather.  What started out as a card for a friend who wasn’t feeling well has morphed into a cute little kit – consisting of face tissue, cough drops and a tea bag which are all decked out in their Stampin’ Up! finery.  The only thing missing is some homemade chicken soup!    The kit fit very nicely into a large cello bag that I dolled up with a bow made with the 1/2" Old Olive striped grosgrain ribbon.  Please visit my gallery to view all of the details about this group of projects or any of my other cards.

 

Here’s a tip:  I love to stamp, but on the rare occasion that I don’t have a stamp that fits my need (like the Bless You tag on the face tissue wrapper), having the RGB codes for all of the Stampin’ Up! colors sure does come in handy.  You just type your sentiment (or place your image) into a Microsoft Word document and then with your text or image highlighted, click on the down arrow that is to the right of “Font Color” button, choose “More Colors”, choose “Custom” and then enter the appropriate number codes for Red (R), Green (G), and Blue (B).  I believe that I got this color chart from my fellow Pal Kris, who spoils all of us in the Pals group by putting together this and so many other useful tools.  If you would like to have a copy of the RGB codes please click here to send me an e-mail and I’ll e-mail the list to you.

Mojo Monday 107 – Let it Snow

 

Today’s Mojo Monday was just plain fun!  I don’t think that I’ve ever done a sketch like this one before, but after today I believe it might be one of my favorites.  Have you checked out the Stampin’ Up! wedding specialty paper?  It’s gorgeous!  It is available in Whisper White (Bride), Very Vanilla (Bridesmaid) and Basic Black (Groom) and adds just the right touch to any project.  I have to confess – I’m not a scrap booker, so I’ve always shied away from the Simply Scrappin’ sets.  I would just flip right on by those pages in the catalog.  Not anymore!  Everything coordinates perfectly and if you plan it right there’s enough stuff in one of those wonderful kits to make at least a dozen projects.  And, at just $19.95, they are a very economical way to try paper crafting.  They would make a great gift too!

 

Here’s a tip:  I used Linen Thread on my button for this project, but if you don’t have any thread or you just want it to be a perfect match, use a tiny sliver of matching card stock as “thread”…it works like a charm!

Honey, we have Love Bugs!!!

 

My husband is an airline pilot so Richard being away from home is just part of our normal routine.  From time to time however, I like to slip a little love note or a treat of some kind into his suitcase before he leaves for a trip.  This “Love Bugs” note is what I made for him this trip.  The Stampin’ Up! Here’s a tip:  To help make my faux stitching even I use a clear ruler and I start at the bottom of my project so the ruler doesn’t touch my fresh (wet) “stitching”.  Be sure to wipe the edge clean after every stitch because the gel pen is sort of goopy and it can smear on your paper as you move the ruler around.

PPA10 – Give Thanks

 

The theme for this week’s challenge is Gratitude and Thanks.   I liked this Stampin’ Up! set from the moment I saw it in the Holiday Mini Catalog and I had a card in mind when I bought it.  Sometimes actually making the project that I have in my mind is another challenge altogether.   Most of my cards have one main focal point – this card has two.  Double the fun!  I’m so glad that I have a Big Shot; it is the unsung hero in a lot of cards and other projects.  Using the Big Shot together with the Texturz plates and the Leaves #2 die really pulled this card together. 

 

Here’s a tip:  While I made this card using fall colors, the bowl of apples is gorgeous with the bowl colored in shades of blue, the apples a deep red and the leaves colored in Always Artichoke for a summer time card.  This set is more versatile then it first appears!

   
Here is another one of my helpers - Katie.  She is a Maine Coon and although she is six years old, she remains very kittenish. Not a day goes by that I'm not laughing over something that she's done!
